I Got A New Crock Pot! Slow Cooker Beef Stew Recipe

I had some Parkson vouchers that I won last year and realized it was expiring on June 14th 2012. I had RM300 worth of vouchers so of course I don’t want to let it expire and go to waste. The thing is, Parkson which is located in Ipoh Parade is so lame. I seriously didn’t know what to use it for. Mom told me not to use it on ‘little things’. I agreed. I wanted to spend it on something special, something I’d never get with my money and something that I can use and remember.

I thought about spending it on perfume or clothing but no, just didn’t seem satisfying enough. I decided that it’s best to buy electrical stuff. But what?

I saw Tefal’s mixer that cost about RM160-ish. It’s small and cute. My mixer is big and bulky. But just didn’t feel quite right yet – like it’s not something I really want. Like I said, Ipoh Parade’s parkson is really lame. They didn’t have much stuff to choose. After looking around for a while, I contemplated on buying a slow cooker or a multipurpose cooker. I already have a multipurpose cooker but it sucked. Don’t buy one that has nonstick surface. I wanted to replace that, buy unfortunately 2 brands that I asked for were not in stock. Urgh.

I decided to go for slow cooker instead! Out of all brands, I decided to go for Takada just because it was love at first sight – it has a nice flowery design that I think is very cute. The rest are just plain boring. Thank goodness it’s in stock. It cost about Rm125-ish I think. There’s a smaller one that cost about RM90-ish.

I’d never get a slow cooker with my own money just because it’s expensive to use electric to cook using it. Most recipes call for at least 4 to 10 hours of cooking. My electricity bill is already so expensive. Beside, my style is cooking simple stuff fast. I don’t like tedious work around the kitchen mostly because I don’t have much time BUT I figured now that I have crock pot, I can make my own favorite chilli con carne the ‘real’ way! Best thing about this slow cooker is that the pot can also be used on a stove. So if I don’t wanna use electricity, there’s always the gas stove.

I just can’t wait to try out the slow cooker soon! I can’t wait to try out all the recipes that uses slow cooker. I already have chilli con carne in mind, and I can’t wait to try making beef stew!

Recipe From AllRecipes

Ingredients:

  • 905 g beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 30 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 g salt
  • 1 g ground black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 g paprika
  • 5 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 355 ml beef broth
  • 3 potatoes, diced
  • 4 carrots, sliced
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
Directions:
  1. Place meat in slow cooker. In a small bowl mix together the flour, salt, and pepper; pour over meat, and stir to coat meat with flour mixture. Stir in the garlic, bay leaf, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, onion, beef broth, potatoes, carrots, and celery.
  2. Cover, and cook on Low setting for 10 to 12 hours, or on High setting for 4 to 6 hours.
