Breakfast @ The Haven Lakeside Residences Ipoh
Early last month, my friend from KL came to Ipoh and stayed at The Haven Lakeside Residences Ipoh. To be precise, it is located in Tambun, near Sunway City Ipoh, where The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat & The Lost World Tambun are located. It was the first time I heard of The Haven Ipoh and I also have never heard of Best Western before. You can google about them to find out more, or click the links at the end of this post. I will also review The Haven in details in my personal blog soon. Once I’ve done the review, I’ll edit this post with the link to the review.
While you can buy the luxurious condominium there, they also offer 100 contemporary guest rooms. Price of course doesn’t come cheap, and it came as a surprise to me when I heard it considering this is Ipoh and not KL. If you are a nature lover, this place is perfect for you as it is surrounded by beautiful lake, huge swimming pool area and lots of greens! It’s perfect as a nature retreat and just to unwind, chill, relax and forget about the busy and hectic life to enjoy tranquility. The place is absolutely beautiful even though it’s quite isolated and lonely but that’s the point right? A getaway from the busy city?

My friend and I, we hung out at Starbucks Tambun until late at night. The distance between The Haven and my house is quite far. By night time, Ipoh city becomes a dead city. I think Ipoh people go to bed by 9 pm. So when we left Starbucks Tambun, it was almost 1 am. After I sent her back to The Haven, I realized it was too dangerous for me to drive back alone especially with the increasing crime rates lately. I decided to stay the night with her.
When I woke up the next morning, my friend invited and offered to treat me for breakfast. For guests staying there, breakfast is included if I’m not mistaken. I might not have the chance to go there again so I decided not to pass up the opportunity. We went down to, as described in the website, ‘clubhouse‘ where a restaurant is located. Silly me, I forgot to ask for the name of the restaurant but according to the website, it’s called ‘Kembali Kitchen‘ so I think that’s what it’s called.
The restaurant is just by the pool, overlooking the lake. It was quite empty when we arrived (since we woke up late) and shortly after I was the only one there since my friend had to go pack her things and checkout.
Nothing much on display except empty plates and glasses at one side of the room. I guess since the place is not exactly a huge popular commercial hotel, they don’t serve buffet breakfast. That would’ve been much nicer. However, the other time when my friend came back for an event, she told me they offered buffet breakfast where a selection of delicious food were available on the table shown in the picture above. I’m not sure if that’s just a one time thing due to event.
You can kind of see the lake there. I’m sure if the restaurant is opened at night, it would look prettier with all the lights. The weather was hot and the sun was blinding so I didn’t pay much attention to the view that morning.
I decided to go for the set breakfast. If I remember correctly, it was RM22. A bit pricey for me but then again, it’s not much of a surprise considering the whole place is luxurious. However, personally, I would prefer going out to the nearby mamak restaurant rather than buy expensive breakfast here unless I’m staying there as a guest and it’s included in the room charge.
You can choose either coffee or tea, and I chose tea. You will also get a glass of fresh orange juice and a glass of plain water. The first course aka appetizer, is two slices of toast, strawberry jam, marmalade and butter.
After I finished the first course, it took them forever to deliver the main breakfast meal. I’m not sure why it took them so long to make it. Maybe deep frying the hash browns takes time? I don’t know.
So this is the ‘main’ course – two eggs sunny side up, a sausage, a small portion of baked beans and mushrooms and two hash browns.
Out of that plate, I would say the hash browns were really good, I loved it. And they were still hot in my plate when it arrived which means they were deep-fried to order. That’s good. Cold hash browns would be yucky. Baked beans was well, the typical baked beans. I loved the sausage! I unfortunately can’t remember what kind of sausage it was but it’s either mushroom sausage or black pepper. I’m guessing black pepper.
Now the mushroom … it was plain. It had no taste. Felt like it was just taken out of can, mixed with a bit of onions. I would prefer a little bit of salt and pepper to it, so it wasn’t so tasteless. Even after I added the pepper, it was still tasteless. Is it supposed to be that way or did they forget to season it? I’m not sure. I love mushrooms so I ate it anyway.
And the last part of the meal is a plate of fruits. There are two slices of watermelon, honeydew, papaya, pomelo and a slice of star fruit and orange. The ‘star’ of that plate of fruits would be pomelo and papaya as they were really sweet and delicious and juicy! I wish I had more. The rest were not as sweet unfortunately. It’s interesting to see pomelo in the plate since Ipoh is well known for its pomelo fruits.
So that’s the end of the breakfast set. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the building so I borrowed the picture from the official website.

According to them, the building is called ‘clubhouse’ and the restaurant is located on the first floor of the building. It’s not yet available in the picture above though, as you can see it’s empty.
It was an interesting experience and I’m thankful to my friend for letting me stay the night with her. Not only I avoided any potential scary experiences of driving home late at night alone, but I also had the opportunity to experience The Haven and do this review. I wish I had more time to explore the place though, especially the jogging track and ‘the other side’ of the area across the lake!
