Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony & Buffet Preview @ Tiffin, WEIL Hotel Ipoh

Phew, 2 more days till Christmas! About 2 weeks ago, I was graciously invited to witness the Christmas tree lighting ceremony and sample the Christmas buffet preview at Tiffin, WEIL Hotel Ipoh. Earlier on that very same day, I was also invited to another Christmas buffet tasting session at The Haven Resorts. I was a bit bummed out that I couldn’t enjoy both sessions to the fullest because I couldn’t binge on the food too much as I had two buffet previews on the same day, haha.

WEIL Hotel Ipoh is a new (about a year old) hotel with a contemporary setting in the heart of Ipoh town. It’s located next to Ipoh Parade and there’s a linkway that connects the hotel to the shopping mall. It’s amazing how much that area and its surrounding have changed. Growing up in Ipoh, I remember that area to be… well… dead. Now it’s thriving!

WEIL Hotel Ipoh is really beautiful at night. Plus, the newly renovated Ipoh Parade has a display of animated graphic facade, where the entire front building (at the main entrance) would display really cool animation at night and since it’s Christmas, it was displaying holiday theme. Really pretty.

So, because I went back home first after my earlier buffet session that day, I was a bit late. I reached the Weil hotel Ipoh at roughly 6.30 pm instead of 6 pm. It was my first time stepping into the hotel since its opening. I also was too scared to park at their own car park so I parked at the field next to it instead (RM3 per entrance, within walking distance).

Because I was a bit late, I missed the lighting ceremony. 🙁

The DIY Wooden Pallets Christmas Tree (the tallest in town! 12 feet tall!) is made of recycled items and built from scratch by the employees of WEIL hotel Ipoh. The lighting ceremony for the Christmas tree (named ‘Tree of Love‘) was held at the hotel lobby.

They also have a donation box and all donation proceeds will be channeled to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Harapan Baru.

The tree, once lit up, is really beautiful and unique!

There’s also a gingerbread house at the side and a short photography session with the kids from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Harapan Baru.

How cool is that?

Then it was straight to their restaurant, Tiffin where everyone would be having the Christmas buffet.

Unlike the earlier buffet preview I went to at The Haven, this dinner was not a special preview for the media only. There are paid guests as well so it was quite crowded, especially between 7 pm – 8.30 pm.

The only thing I’m not quite happy about is that it’s not a special media preview. That means no special photography session for the food. People started taking all the food right away so I couldn’t take good pictures of the food, untouched. Plus, I took so long to take pictures that by the time everyone was halfway through with their dinner, I was just starting. Obviousy I was the last one to finish and to go home. The lighting was a bit dim as well, so excuse the dark pictures.

I could only take good pictures of the desserts because everybody was busy with the appetizers and main course first. This is the Christmas stollen, which is really good!

I was really happy to see the gingerbread house because my Christmas won’t be complete without gingerbread cookie/man. Unfortunately, the house is for display only 🙁 But the chocolate fudge isn’t, and there’s half of macaron shell on top of it!

The apple crumble tart is really good!

But even the tart couldn’t beat this delicious pecan pie! I absolutely LOVE this.

Even the bread pudding is really good! I didn’t get to taste much of this though.

Like the pecan pie, this walnut tart is also amazing. I wish I could take it all home. It would be great to have during my Christmas movie marathon.

Oh gosh, they even have Creme Brulee! One of my most favorite desserts. It’s sweet and really creamy, but not too sweet that it makes you sick. I could have like 10 of these.

I had these strawberry cheesecake last, and the latter batches didn’t have the chocolate on top of it. So I don’t know what they taste like. But the cheesecake just melts in your mouth.

I’m quite sad I didn’t get to taste this yule log cake though 🙁

Then I moved to the fresh seafood, salad & fruits section. I was really happy to see salmon and octopus! So I binged on them till I felt sick 🙁 That’s what you get when you see something rare and be greedy about it. I love how they have a wide variety of different dipping sauces, including wasabi.

Then there’s the main course section. The first section you get the Asian food, starting with the plain white rice.

Then you have this Jeera rice. I didn’t taste this so I’m not sure how it taste like.

Oh gosh, the sambal udang. The temptation! But since I didn’t have any rice, I didn’t have any sambal udang 🙁 Kind of regretting it now.

There’s also this Kashmiri Gosh and Ayam Kari Kentang (Curry Chicken with Potatoes). Oh gosh, they look so delicious but I wanted more of the western food rather than asian. Again, regretting it now.

Of course, there’s the wok fried noodle, classic favorites.

With every Christmas-themed buffet/food, I always hunt for the turkey because it’s the type of meat I rarely ever get to taste (and also quite expensive). While they didn’t have the succulent roasted stuffed turkey like The Haven did, but they did have this slices of Maple & Mustard Glazed Turkey Toast.

Oh. My. God.

It was SO GOOD, I can’t even describe it. It was juicy and sweet, plus with the added raisins, oh gosh I could eat that all night. This was the main highlight for me.

I unfortunately forgot what this is.

And the red part, that wasn’t lighting error. They did look that red. Haha. Actually, there’s a red light shining brightly above their special feature, Roasted Beef Striploin.

Next to it is the noodle section, and I forgot to take a picture of because I was so mesmerized but the chef cutting the meat.

My plate of meat and seafood! Yes, I didn’t control myself and the result – I was so stuffed I couldn’t even breathe, let alone walk, haha. I thought my stomach was going to explode. Yes, yes, I’ve learned my lesson the hard way. Gluttony is, in fact, one of the seven deadliest sins.

Christmas Buffet & Tree Lighting Ceremony @ Tiffin, WEIL Hotel Ipoh

And this is my desserts plate. Some of the desserts were gone so I didn’t get to taste some of them. Some others, like Creme Brulee for example, keep being restocked so they had plenty for everyone.

Then some time after, they were giving some gifts to the kids. A really cute gingerbread cookie! I wanted one.

Christmas Buffet & Tree Lighting Ceremony @ Tiffin, WEIL Hotel Ipoh

Then there was a brief photography session before the kids leave. I really wanted that gingerbread man.

Christmas Buffet & Tree Lighting Ceremony @ Tiffin, WEIL Hotel Ipoh

And I managed to get one, so thank you so much to the person who got it for me 🙂

Like I mentioned earlier, I was the last one to leave because I took too long taking all the pictures. By the end, I was so stuffed I couldn’t walk properly but I wanted to check out the rooftop infinity pool. So I said, screw the pain, I’m gonna go to the rooftop and if my stomach was gonna burst open, it better burst open after I’ve seen the pool!

Christmas Buffet & Tree Lighting Ceremony @ Tiffin, WEIL Hotel Ipoh

It was so worth it. The view from the rooftop infinity pool is breathtakingly amazing! You could see the whole Ipoh town at night. It was drizzling so it was wet and the chairs were damp, so I couldn’t sit there for long but gosh, it’s such a beautiful scene.

Christmas Buffet & Tree Lighting Ceremony @ Tiffin, WEIL Hotel Ipoh

That wraps up my first Christmas buffet experience at WEIL Hotel Ipoh. Thank you so much for inviting me. Hopefully, I could get invited for more buffet previews & events in the future 😉

PS: I took a video, haven’t had the time to edit yet. When it’s uploaded, I’ll edit this post!
