“Kembara Iftar” Ramadhan Buffet 2019 @ WEIL Hotel Ipoh
For this year’s Ramadhan buffet, WEIL Hotel Ipoh chose the theme Kembara Iftar, meaning Journey of Ramadhan in which they will showcase two Ramadhan menus, featured on a rotation basis. It is the journey of discovering the diverse spread of Malaysia’s signature dishes hailing from some of the 12 states around the country to reminisce the sweet hometown memory that each of us grew up in.

One of their must-try signature dish – Whole Barbecued Lamb with 3 choices of gravy.
BBQ lamb is a must for me everywhere I go but I always prefer WEIL Hotel’s BBQ lamb more than anywhere else mainly because of the gravy selection.
Another favorite would be their satay. Absolutely DELICIOUS. Skewered meat cooked with perfection with yummy peanut sauce.
Both the menus include more than 10 types of local salads, served with a selection of salted fish, crackers and sambal and four international salads. Their Main Course features 14 dishes combining cuisine from the three main ethnic groups – Malay, Chinese and Indian with the highlight being their favorite Sup Tulang Kambing.
Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, T. Saravanan said that the theme came from Malaysia’s diverse cultural and historical influences that make our food, ever so colorful and tasteful.
“Let us bring you on Malaysia’s cuisine journey with our Kembara Iftar buffet spread, tickling that spicy, sweet and flavourful tang into your tastebud,” Saravanan said.
Their infamous Action Stall Corner featuring eight authentically decorated stalls serving Malaysian cuisine from across the nation will also be making a comeback.
You can find local favorites like popia basah, shawarma, chicken rice, fried noodle, and even ais kacang to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings.
Their ulam-ulaman section has all kinds of ulam and sambal.
Their dessert selection never disappoint. From cakes to tarts to puddings to local kuih.
At the Indian cuisine section you could find a variety of Indian dish but there’s one type of food that really caught my interest – the lamb murtabak!
It was my first time tasting a murtabak with lamb filling instead of the common beef and chicken. It’s SO GOOD. Seriously, I wish people would sell lamb murtabak.
Apart from murtabak, you could also find roti john and tandoori.
There’s one drink I always look forward to – the masala tea.

Their masala tea is quite mild and not as strong as authentic Indian chai tea but it’s still good.
When I was busy taking pictures and video, I noticed a group of people including photographers coming my way. I ignored them at first but as they got closer, I realized they were taking pictures of the Menteri Besar Perak, YAB Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal bin Azumu.
It was awesome to finally see the new Perak’s menteri besar up-close. Also present was Mr. Liew Yu-Wei, the Executive Director of WEIL Hotel Ipoh.
I loved everything that I tried at the buffet, especially the BBQ lamb and satay, of course. And lamb murtabak, oh my gosh.
A favorite during the Ramadan is the Bubur Lambuk and their Bubur Lambuk Ibunda just can’t be missed! During Ramadhan, Bubur Lambuk Ibunda will be distributed to two mosques in Ipoh frequented by the less fortunate.
The Kembara Iftar Ramadhan buffet dinner is priced at RM88 per adult, RM78 per senior citizen and RM39 per child (five years and above). Enjoy the Early Bird promotion of RM70 per adult available until 13 May.
