Delicious Bingsu @ Nunkkock Korean Dessert Cafe Ipoh

There’s a new dessert cafe in town! For those who are a huge fan of Korean desserts, Nunkkock Korean Dessert Cafe has finally opened its doors in Ipoh to serve and satisfy people’s cravings for Korean bingsu.

Nunkkock is located at Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh, and within walking distance from MyKori, a similar Japanese-style dessert cafe.

What is a Bingsu?

Patbingsu is a popular Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings that may include chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and red beans. Varieties with ingredients other than red beans are called bingsu (bingsoo).

The first thing I noticed when I entered Nunkkock Korean Dessert Cafe is how cozy the interior is. The warmth ambiance is very inviting and the usage of colors and different elements in the decor will spark some joy out of you. It’s a great place to hang out with your friends to have a chat and a bowl of bingsu, especially on a hot day.

They serve a selection of fruity and savory bingsu, toasts, waffles, and a selection of trendy cold beverages and hot teas.

Four Season Bingsu

When I looked at their selection of bingsu, I seriously had trouble picking just one to try. Everything looks so darn good. Because it was a hot day, I wanted something refreshing and decided why just have one type of fruit when you could have four? I went for their Four Season Bingsu.

Their Four Season Bingsu has the milk snowflake, dragonfruits, bananas, blueberries, kiwi, topped with vanilla ice-cream and some corn flakes, plus red bean at the bottom of your shaved ice. It also comes with some extra condensed milk for you to add to your bingsu if you prefer it sweeter and creamier as I do. It’s super good.

The variety of fruits make this bingsu very refreshing and flavorful.

Nutella Peanut Injeolmi Toast

When I saw nutella and peanut butter as the ingredient, I did not hesitate to choose this one to taste from their toast selection. I mean, who doesn’t love these two perfect combination of flavors? I think you could already imagine the taste of the creamy peanut butter paired up with the sweet and chocolatey nutella on the bread.

Highly recommended.

Melon Ice-Cream Waffle

Ahh… I can’t express how much I love this! Isn’t this such a beauty?

It has the combination of everything I love – sweet, savory, creamy.
Two pieces of Belgian waffles with rockmelon balls sandwiched in between, topped with vanilla ice cream, some cream, and one sliced strawberry, plus pieces of banana and tiny chocolate balls for the crunch to compliment the flavor, and also chocolate sauce drizzle.

Just typing that out already made me drool. The waffles were absolutely perfect for my taste. It’s sweet and crispy on the outside but soft/fluffy on the inside, just the way I like it. The ice cream adds some creaminess to it. The fruits were refreshing and the chocolate added some crunch & sweetness.

They also have two more waffle dishes to choose from.

Dragonberry Oregano

It has a pretty 3-layered colors! Before drinking it, you need to shake shake shake. When it’s mixed, then you’ll get a new color. What color will it be? You have to find out yourself 😉

After eating all the sweet desserts, I thought this would be sweet as well. Boy, was I wrong. This is actually not sweet at all. Now, if you’ve been eating all the sweet desserts, then this would be a perfect pair. If you’ve been eating savory food or have a sweet tooth, then you might want to choose a sweeter drink.

I told them that I’d prefer this to be slightly sweeter. After tasting it again, I’ve changed my mind. It’s actually very tasty the way it is. Making it even slightly sweeter would probably ruin the pure flavor of dragonfruit which is naturally not as sweet.

So, to owners of Nunkkock Cafe, please don’t modify the beverage. 🙂

Rockmelon Oregano

Unlike the dragonberry one, rockmelon is a slightly sweeter drink but still not too sweet and very refreshing. Don’t forget to shake shake shake your jar so all the colors and flavor will mix and produce a new color. 😉

To my surprise, you could also take away your bingsu!

Being a lover of mixed berries, I chose the ‘Mixedberry Bingsu‘ to take home. Oh my gosh, how cute is the packaging?! I seriously can’t get over how cute this is. It also kinda looks like an ornament that you hang on the Christmass tree, haha.

It comes in a transparent plastic spherical box for the bingsu with a decorative holder that looks like a gift in the festive season. Milk is also included in a small container for those who prefer sweeter and creamier bingsu at the comfort of your own home.

How creative!

Nunkkock Korean Dessert Cafe Soft Opening

I attended their soft opening with my friends and to my surprise, it was damn crowded! We had to wait for our table so they’ve asked us to order first at the counter.

Everything is self-service so after you’ve placed your order at the counter, you have to wait for your number to be called. Then you have to pick the order yourself.

It was pretty noisy with all the guest happily chatting and enjoying their desserts. This is the first section that has the warm, cozy decor with a feminine touch.

And the one where people are sitting down on the cushion is another section with a different vibe. Walls are decorated with some bear bricks collection and the guest sit down Japanese-style on the ‘floor‘.

And then the other side (not pictured) is another section with tables, funny cartoony cushions and more bear bricks collection! So all 3 sections are the result of personal touch of 3 different people.

These first two order came first.

Strawberry Bingsu & Mixedberry Bingsu

For those who love the refreshing & sour flavor, then these two are a must! I’ve already tasted the mixedberry previously and wanted something else, but some items were sold out already. I was pretty disappointed about that since I really wanted to try their Lava Bingsu. I was told they make a limited amount of lava cakes daily so that’s why it sold out fast.

Oh well. Looks like I’d have to come back again 😛

Popcorn Bingsu

This is absolutely friggin delicious! I mean crunchy & sweet caramel popcorn topped with vanilla ice-cream drillzed with chocolate and caramel syrup with bits of cookies underneath that snowflake.

Oh. My. Gosh.
Lord. Have. Mercy.

It was so good that I didn’t even realize I cleaned the bowl myself. Another highly recommended bingsu for those who love popcorn! Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could have this at the cinema while watching movie instead of the traditional popcorn? Haha.

Choco Oreo Bingsu

Another delicious creation! It was another big hit at our table. I didn’t even get to taste much of this because everybody liked it so much. Before I knew it, it’s all gone. My friend said even the cookies don’t taste the same as the oreo cookies in Malaysia because it’s better haha.

For fans of chocolate and oreo/chocolate cookies, this is definitely the perfect choice!

Nutella Peanut Injeolmi Toast

I wanted my friends to taste this so I ordered this again even though I’ve already tasted it previously. It’s everybody’s favorite and nobody could say no to nutella and peanut butter!

Cheese Injeolmi Toast w/ Garlic

This is my new favorite! I absolutely love this! It has the cheesy (but not overwhelming) flavor which I love so much. This doesn’t really fill you up fast unlike the nutella one as it’s quite light on the taste. I’d definitely come back just to have this again.

Chocolate Injeolmi Toast

It’s chocolate and chocolate is everybody’s favorite! This is more like a dessert because of the chocolate and vanilla ice-cream combination. Chocolate lovers will definitely love this one.

Our colorful drinks! From left to right:-

  • Dragonberry Oregano
  • Strawberry Yoghurt
  • Rockmelon Oregano
  • Green Tea Latte
  • Strawberry Oregano

As mentioned above, Dragonberry Oregano is not sweet at all. Next, the Strawberry Yoghurt has a distinct yogurt taste so it’s sour-ish and not sweet. The Rockmelon Oregano has a slightly sweeter taste but not overwhelming. Green Tea Latte is very nice! It’s quite sweet and has a distinct matcha flavor which I really love that’s not artificial. Then last but not least, the Strawberry Oregano which is sweeter than the rest and it’s really nice! For those who prefer something smooth, sweet and creamy, this is recommended.

Apart from the colorful cold beverages, they also have a selection of hot Teekanne Germany Tea to choose from.

Overall, Nunkkock Korean Dessert Cafe is a great place to chill alone or with friends, and their bingsu are awesome. A bowl is enough to be shared by two people if you’re not a big eater.

They open daily from 2 pm to 11.30 pm, while on the weekend, they open from 1pm to 12am. Do check with them for any timing changes.
